DETAIL SPECIFICATION
ALUMINUM ALLOY ARMOR, FORGED
This specification is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the
Department of Defense.
1.
SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers forged aluminum alloy armor, die forgings
from 3/4 inch up to and including 3 inches in thickness for type I, class A
forgings, and from 3/4 inch up to and including 4 inches for type I, class B
forgings. Type II forging thicknesses should be as specified (see 6.2).
1.2 Classification. Forgings furnished under this specification are furnished
in one of the following types and classes.
Type I
- Weldable forgings
Class A - Non-heat treatable
Alloy 5083
Alloy 5456
Class B - Heat treatable
Alloy 7039
Al-Zn-Mg
Type II - Non-weldable forgings
